Club History
Kingston Panthers basketball club were founded in November 2011, competing in the Humber Basketball Association development league. Based at Bishop Burton College the team initially comprised local players from the Hull and surrounding areas and players from the college.
That season saw steady improvement throughout culminating in a top four finish in the league and a win in the play-off final beating previously undefeated champions Hull Stingers on route.
A busy summer in 2012 saw Director of Basketball Karl Buitendam recruit some of the cream of local basketball talent both home grown and international as Panthers entered the HBA premier league with high expectations. Perhaps more surprising was after just one year of existence Karl Buitendam declared his intention to enter the team in England Basketball National League for the 2013/14 season.
The 2012/13 HBA season was a resounding success, a move to Andrew Marvell school and its better facilities saw Panthers win all 16 games securing the premier league title, the HBA cup, the playoff title and the HBA one day challenge trophy.
Midway through the season Panthers announced a merger with local team East Hull Harriers bringing a 2nd man’s team to the club as well as a robust and thriving junior setup boasting an under 13’s and under 16’s team. A major factor for the merger was to secure more experienced coaches to join the club including Arran Hayes who now coaches the national league side and Steve Layne who is coach of the ladies team.
Shortly after this the club received another boost with the setting up of a pioneering ladies basketball team bringing together girls of all nationalities to play in the first ladies team in Hull. Subsequent victories in all their friendly matches saw the ladies entered into the HBA men’s league for the 2013/14 season and the bold declaration that they too will enter national league basketball in 2014/15.
The 2013/14 season has seen Panthers compete in national league division 4 North, HBA premier league, the championship league and both the ladies and under 20’s in the HBA development league. Added to this the under 16’s have competed in HBA CVL competitions, resulting in over 100 participants for the club this year. Panthers championship team led by Coach Matt Gant retained the HBA cup the Premier team had won the season before beating South Bank powerhouse Scunthorpe Ravens in a tense final.

The national league team almost pulled off a dream debut season, playing in the impressive Sports Arena on Walton Street, Kingston Panthers surprised many by finishing third only missing out on second position and promotion due to a disallowed basket and a 76-75 defeat in the final game of the season.
Season 2014/15 bore witness to Panthers Ladies joining the men in National league competition as they entered division 2 North whilst where there was a change for the men as Basketball England moved them to the Midlands division. However with no team sponsor for the season, the financial burden became too much and the men's team was withdrawn from the league with a 1-3 standing. After a tough baptism in the first half of the season the ladies acclimatised well picking up 4 wins by the end of the season including the prized scalp of eventual champions Sheffield Hallam Hatters. At local level Panthers championship team built on the previous seasons success by winning the league and playoff double whilst in the development league the under 20's finished a creditable 3rd whilst their was a debut for the under 16's
